City Breaks to London, Paris, New York, Rome and Barcelona
There is plenty to see in do on a weekend break to some of the world’s best
known cities, from the Royal surroundings of London to the tall skyscrapers of
New York. Likewise, a trip to the mainland continent can also mean visits to
cities such as Barcelona, Rome or Paris.
But why leave it at just the weekend? These cities can also be enjoyed in the
form of short breaks, in which plenty of activities within the city boundaries
can be experienced and the surrounding area is only a quick journey away.
For some, the best idea of a city break away from home might take the form of
New York, in which the sights and sounds of the Big Apple can be experienced,
with many globally recognised landmarks available for the eyes to see. Visitors
here can witness the world renowned shows of Broadway, can feast their eyes on
the Statue of Liberty and climb to the top of some of the tallest skyscrapers in
the world.
It also means that people can boast to having experienced one of the biggest and
best known cities in the world, where the biggest names in finance, culture and
entertainment have set up shop. It is also the location that has seen many big
name television shows base their plots, from the long running sitcom “Friends”
to the ongoing stories of the girls from “Sex & The City”.
And if there’s somewhere else in the city you need to get to, there are taxis on
every block, whilst the subway system gets the population to their destination
at every opportunity.
But not everyone needs a long stay in a foreign city and if people want a trip a
little closer to home then they might set their sights on their native soil,
with London being of particular interest.
London is another city that can boast to being one of the most famous in the
world, with a history that has also seen it at the centre of the planet in terms
of banking, entertainment and the arts. As well as regular weekend breaks or
short stays to the city, there are many who opt for a theatre break as well,
taking in the sights of world famous West End plays. Like Broadway, these can
feature some of the biggest on the Earth, whilst the talent off stage, writing
the scripts and directing the actors, is also of world class calibre.
Sticking with Europe there are also a range of foreign cities that people flock
to every year, including France’s capital Paris. It is here that visitors can
enjoy a range of world famous sights, from the church of Notre Dame to the
impressive structure that is the Eiffel Tower. Paris has it all, from the pretty
streets dotted with cafes and restaurants, to the River Seine with its
impressive bridges walks.
Paris is also home to the theme park Disneyland Paris, bringing the magic of
Walt Disney pictures to Europe, with rides such as Space Mountain and The
Pirates Of The Caribbean keeping visitors more than happy.
There’s also the chance of a trip onboard the world famous train service
Eurostar, with stations that link mainland Europe to the UK, where the setting
off point of St Pancras can take guests to Paris without having to fly or take
to the sea, with guests also managing to get a glimpse of the glorious French
countryside.
But if visitors wish to get away from home and go a little further away, there
is another capital city that boasts famous sights and sounds, whilst also
benefiting from suitable transport options and beautiful surroundings; Rome.
With sights that include the famous Coliseum and streets that give clues to its
long and impressive history at every corner, Rome is a city that provides
weekend breaks and short stays to remember. The former centre of the world, it
is the city that gave us some of the world’s best known thinkers, with rulers
that also included some well known Emperors, including Julius Caesar.
It also features the glorious sight of the Tiber River, which frames a city that
has benefited from retaining the features that made it special, even during the
Second World War, when it emerged relatively unscathed from the bombings that
left much of Europe in ruins.
Like Rome, there are plenty of place that offer great sights illuminated by near
constant sun shine, and there’s no better place to enjoy the sun than Spain,
with the famous city of Barcelona being another great destination for those
wanting a weekend break of short visit. It is here (and nearby) that many of the
world famous works of art can be seen, from the paintings of Salvador Dali to
the unfinished church of Segrada Familia, which still stands above the skyline
as a monument to be celebrated.
With the Mediterranean Ocean right at its feet and hills surrounding what is
Spain’s second biggest city (behind Madrid), Barcelona offers Spain at its
finest, with resorts such as Salou and cities such as Tarragona only a stone’s
throw away, it offers a lot to see and do and a break to remember.
So head to the city of your choice for a memorable visit and you could come away
with memories that last forever.
